Learning English can be a challenge, but it's worth the effort! Knowing English can open you up to a world of cultures, friends, and opportunities. Exposing yourself to English as much as possible and practicing a little bit every day can really help build fluency. It's best to study using topics you're already interested in. For example, if you are interested in cycling, read blogs or magazines about cycling; join an online forum about cycling. You'll be more motivated to learn and remember if the English you're learning is interesting to you and useful in your life!
After graduating from the University of Texas at Austin, where she studied linguistics and interpersonal communication, Lara moved to Brazil, fulfilling a long-term interest in experiencing life outside the U.S. In Brazil, she leveraged her TESOL certification to teach English to students at all ability levels, and in a wide range of ages, from adults to children.

Lara's professional TESOL certification has given her many tools and techniques, but her past experience as a martial arts instructor is also a crucial source of inspiration in the classroom. Explaining a concept to the student clearly and simply, and then encouraging them to try it by themselves, was central to teaching martial arts, and this ability is also invaluable in her work teaching English.
An effective teacher is clear and articulate about what he or she expects from their students, as well as receptive and supportive of the needs and expectations of their students. The best teachers have an infectious passion for their subject and they use to this motivate their students. I have studied communication strategies for many years and the challenge of communicating with students of another language fascinates me. I love teaching because I love sharing my culture and learning about other cultures. My students・enthusiasm motivates me to be a better teacher. I love meeting new people and learning about them, which creates a welcoming environment for my students to feel comfortable trying English without feeling nervous.

In 2011, she returned to Japan to teach university-level English courses.

Marie is very interested in Japanese language and culture. She has passed the Japanese Language Proficiency Test Level 2 and enjoys watching anime and reading manga to study. December 2011. Received JLPT Level N1 certification Japanese Language Proficiency Test.
June 2011. Promoted to Education Coordinator for Youth for Understanding's JPDO (Japan Pre-Departure Orientation).
My work with Japan continues to be one of the most positive influences on my life. Becoming fluent in Japanese was a dream of mine during High School. That dream took me to live for over 7 years in Japan in Tokyo, and under Mt. Fuji in Fujiyoshida City, which is the sister city of my hometown, Colorado Springs. Learning Japanese fluently took much trial and error, but has become the most rewarding processes of my life. In the same way, I hope to challenge my students to practice their English speaking ability openly, and without concern of making mistakes. I found that many Japanese people are shy about English even if they speak very well! I hope that you will jump right in to English and learn as much as possible!

Seattle University - BA in Communication Studies, Minors in Business Administration and Chinese

Born in Hong Kong and raised from age 3 in the Pacific island of Guam (USA), Cheryl grew up around first-generation immigrant families and friends who learned English through school, work and self-study.

After receiving her bachelors degree in Seattle and working in the world of business consulting, Cheryl decided against climbing the corporate ladder and instead pursued adventure in the small town of Hiji, Oita prefecture.

For the next 3 years, Cheryl taught English in Oita to a variety of English learners in a variety of settings. Her students ranged from energetic kindergartners, fashionable housewives and retired doctors to children and teens of all ages. Her classrooms included schools, coffee shops, homes and even hospitals.
As a self-learner of Japanese and other languages, Cheryl understands the trials and tribulations of foreign language acquisition; she's made plenty of silly faux-pas' and mistakes in Japanese. Cheryl says that if you're nervous, intimidated or afraid of making mistakes, don't be - mistakes, blunders and slip-ups are the stepping stones to fluency! When in doubt, just follow Nike's slogan: 'Just do it.'

Her extensive experience living and working overseas has given her a unique understanding of the cultural aspects of language learning from the perspective of a student as well as a teacher, and her love of languages infuses her teaching at every level.
Often students provide a theme for Colleen’s lessons, while Colleen provides a menu of ways to explore these themes using English communicatively. English is fun, and through a wide variety of activities and tasks Colleen supports students in becoming more fluent and more accurate in English. She enjoys teaching all levels and skills, and welcomes all new students.
Moorhead State University—B.A. English
North Dakota State University—M.A. English Literature
Hamline University—TEFL Certification (Master’s Program)

In addition to more than 15 years of teaching experience, Larry has also worked extensively as a writing and language tutor, conducting thousands of sessions with students from many countries. He has also directed writing centres at colleges and universities, and has served as ESL specialist in several university learning centres. In recent years, Larry served as a conversational English tutor for a company at Nike World Campus in Portland, Oregon. Not only did he work as a language coach with several executives from Pacific Rim countries, but he met some famous athletes there as well. However, he has yet to meet his idol, Roger Federer!

Having the opportunity to meet and work with more students from all over the world is truly Larry’s greatest career motivation. He recently lived in İstanbul, Turkey, where he was a faculty member in the Communications Department at a major university. This type of experience is his ideal, because it involves both teaching and his own learning—helping others with their English while exploring another country’s language and culture. Larry looks forward to moving back to Prague, in the Czech Republic, to live and work in language instruction again.
Larry hopes that all of his experience—as a teacher, a language tutor, and a writer—can be of benefit to you in your efforts to make English a functional world language for both your business and cultural enhancement.
